As part of The Big Issue’s Sales Support team in Bournemouth, you will be the first point of contact for our vendors and prospective vendors that come through our doors. You will get to know the vendors and be part of our social initiative that helps them to help themselves. You will be responsible for selling the magazine, handling and reconciling cash and stock control of the magazines.
We are currently seeking temporary counter staff to provide cover for our Distribution office in Bournemouth and would involve you working directly with Big Issue vendors. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to develop your skills in an interesting environment where you can make a real difference to people’s lives.
Working on the front desk in a small but very busy team, you will need to be resilient, have excellent communication skills and the ability to cope with challenging and lively situations. You must have strong attention to detail, a sense of humour and accuracy in record keeping and cash handling.
Previous experience in cashiering and an understanding of the practical and emotional needs of homeless people are an advantage. You must also have a full clean UK driving licence.
A commitment to the social objectives of The Big Issue is essential.
