Big Issue Invest Ltd (BII) is a specialist provider of finance to social enterprises. Wholly owned by The Big Issue magazine, BII is led by social entrepreneurs and staffed by social financiers. BII finances social enterprises throughout the UK, including the trading arms of charities, non-profit distributing firms and, on an exceptional basis, socially driven, for-profit businesses. BII has an ongoing social enterprise loan program and also manages a distinct Social Enterprise Investment Fund (SEIF) which will channel third party investment into risk capital investments in high growth UK social enterprises.

Maintaining strong relationships with clients after we have made our investment is critical. The candidate must have excellent networking and communication skills with the ability to relate to a wide range of people across the social, public and private sectors. S/he will become involved in due diligence, promotional work at conferences and researching prospective clients. As well as the technical skills, this job will require an energetic, enthusiastic individual with a strong sense of empathy with social enterprises who is capable of working on their own initiative with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will have substantial experience of the financial needs of small businesses. This could have been obtained through a background of financial, banking and lending roles or from hands on involvement in the running of successful small businesses or social enterprises.

Specialist knowledge of the needs and the priorities of community and social enterprises would be an advantage. Knowledge of development funds, voluntary sector grants, and the making of applications to charitable foundations and public bodies is desirable. The Loan Manager will work a minimum of 37.5 hours a week and will be based from our offices in Vauxhall.
