Innovative support for innovative investments
This meeting will highlight the many ways in which lawyers play an important advisory role at a number of stages in the life of the investment.
Detailing the specific legal and technical expertise of lawyers, our panel of legal practitioners will draw on their own experiences of advising impact investors. On the panel we welcome: Rhianydd Griffith (Reed Smith LLP) and Ranajoy Basu (Reed Smith LLP) who will consider investment funds, bonds and other structured projects;Virginia Tan (Allen & Overy LLP) who will talk on the risk associated with social impact investing and Michelle Peters (Dechert LLP) who will speak on her experience in advising The Eleos Foundation.
Charities and social enterprises are increasingly considering the impact investment model as a way of attracting additional funding sources in order to scale up funds raised through traditional fundraising and grant methods.
However, the environment in which impact investing operates is inherently complex, and even more so when the investment portfolio includes projects in the developing world. Access to strategic legal advice is therefore essential, particularly for early stage impact investors who take on a higher risk than venture capitalists which typically enter where the investment and business models have been tested on the market.
