Retailer of organic food and natural remedies. How is it social?
As Nature Intended sells organic food. Food is sourced locally where possible, supporting local economies and reducing the company's carbon footprint.
What is its business model?
As Nature Intended is a high street retailer of organic food. Its four stores sell fresh produce, meat, chilled goods, beer, wine, and natural remedies. 95% of the food they sell is organic, but non-organic food items are sold if they are not available organically. As Nature Intended aims to be a type of small supermarket. There are over 5,000 products on sale, and regular money-saving promotions. The company has brought in an ex-Tesco man as new operations director and is currently looking for retail sites to further its expansion.
Its history
As Nature Intended was thought up by Malcolm Walker, former chairman of Iceland, and its first shop opened in Chiswick in June 2000.
The company encountered problems in 2002 at which time Caroline Walker, Malcolm Walker's daughter, took over as managing director. The second store opened in Ealing Broadway in March 2005 and the third in Balham in October 2006 (on the site of a previous Iceland store). The company opened a fourth store in Hale, Manchester, in August 2007.

Pspots offer an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional model of printing. Whereas currently, a building might contain as many as 100 printers servicing only their owners, the same building is now serviceable by only 1 or 2 Pspots. This remarkable saving is based on the fact that people infrequently use printers and by sharing access to one printer, considerable reductions in manufacturing waste and carbon emissions can be achieved. We setup printers in public places. Anyone who wants to use our printers visits us online, uploads the job and then walks over to any of our locations and collects their prints.
