Tekoha retails arts and crafts goods produced by 30 low income communities in Brazil. Its products are marketed and sold as company gifts in Brazil and are also exported to other countries (as women's accessories and decor products). Tekoha's products can be bought online. How is it social?
Tekoha promotes the income generation of low income communities in Brazil. These communities are located in rural and urban areas and deal with environmental challenges, such as Amazon preservation. Selling products through Tekoha is a guarantee that the whole process is sustainable, including the raw material. Tekoha works with 28 communities and sells their handcrafts to many companies as corporate gifts and to fair trade stores in other countries (Poland, Switzerland, France). What is its business model?
Tekoha is a platform to sell and develop relationships with companies, marketing agencies and international fair trade stores trading products from many communities and making the process of selling sustainable products with a lot of diversity much easier, buying everything from only one trader. As we trade fairly, paying good prices for the communities and tracking their development through local NGOs that are our partners, we promote more and more income and include more communities in this network. So, our social impact is totally connected to our business model. Its history
Tekoha started in April 2007 as a NGO working with low income communities to help them selling their handcrafts. In September 2008 it became a small enterprise focused on developing new distribution channels: corporate and exportation. During the last year our sales had grown from 1 - 2 thousand dollars to 7-8 thousand dollars a month. And the expectations are high on these two business: corporate gifts and exportation.More information
