Bambienti design and produce a range of furniture and accessories for the home and garden that are all handmade using Bamboo, which is sustainably sourced and produced by family run artisan workshops. How is it social?
Bambienti chooses bamboo for all of its products as an alternative to regular hardwood because the company does not believe there is enough sustainable conventional timber available to cater for commercial and domestic requirements. Bamboo is a fast-growing and naturally sustainable woody grass. It helps regenerate degraded land, producing high quantities of oxygen and removing significant amounts of carbon from the atmosphere.
Bambienti's designs are handmade by a selected network of family run, cottage industry style workshops. The business prefers these medium sized workshops because they provide artisans with better conditions and the space to be creative. The company believes this allows it to do much more creatively than it could working with larger factories.
By designing and producing product alternatives using only bamboo, Bambienti is supporting a growing movement that seeks to reduce man's dependence on diminishing timber resources and in so doing reduce our negative impact on the environment.
What is its business model?
Bambienti sells products to retailers, interior designers and contract specifiers, including hotels and property developers. Bambienti also caters for demand from consumers through its own website shop. The Company's products include a wide range of tables, seats, storage units, shelving, kitchen and dining items, garden water features and accessories.

Red Button Design Ltd is an internationally award winning, for-profit, social enterprise. We established in 2007 in order to design, manufacture and supply products exclusively for the humanitarian market. The inspiration behind the company was to design instantly effective interim solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems. By doing so, we hope to mobilise the resources of international aid agencies away from ‘fire fighting’ missions long enough to implement truly sustainable infrastructure. Accordingly, the name “Red Button Design” is derived from the idea of an ‘emergency stop button’. Our flagship product is Midomo (formerly referred to as ‘ROSS’ or the ‘Reverse Osmosis Sanitation System’) Midomo, is a household-level water transport, purification and storage solution to be purchased by humanitarian organisations and deployed for use by individuals throughout the developing world. The device uses an internal filter system, powered by the rotation of the wheels, to transform harmful water to drinkable water on-the-go. A user would roll the unit to the nearest source of water, fill the 50 litre tank, and roll it home. Once home, the water drawn from the unit is potable to World Health Organisation standards.
