The Big Life Company is an incubator and parent company of a number of social businesses and charities, focused mainly on education and training. How is it social?
The Big Life Group’s central focus is to provide those who are in need with the opportunity to earn an income and move towards a higher standard of living. The businesses under the company’s supervision all provide either job training or placement to those that would otherwise be unable to secure a position in another organisation. The group also empowers underprivileged people in our society to become self-reliant and net contributors to the economy.
What is its business model?
The Big Life Group is a conglomerate of three businesses and three charities that aim to grow successful social enterprises to help people change their lives. The three businesses are:
- Big Life Employment, which provides training and employment opportunities to people who are overlooked by mainstream employers as a result of disability, ethnicity, mental health problems, long-term illness, homelessness, drug or alcohol dependency.
- The Big Life Company, which provides finance, human resources, IT, development, PR and communications, research and corporate governance to all the social businesses and charities within The Big Life Group.
- Aisha Childcaring, which provides nursery and childcare services in regenerating areas, while also training people in this service industry.
The three charities that are run by The Big Life Group all provide funding for the different businesses Big Life manages.
Its history
The Big Life Group was founded as a private limited company with charitable intentions, taking small social business ideas and providing them with ongoing funding through the charities that are associated with the company, until the funded businesses become profitable enough to sustain themselves and give returns to The Big Life Group.
