What does it do?

The Igloo Regeneration Partnership develops and invests in urban regeneration sites across the UK.

How is it social?

Igloo Regeneration Partnership plans communities that people will enjoy to live in. It does this through consulting with the residents and considering the evidence from previous communities about where people want to live. It is careful to reduce the amount residents need to travel and is generally environmentally aware.

What is its business model?

Igloo Regeneration Partnership invests in sustainable communities. Its buildings are designed to be environmentally sound. It also focuses on regenerating communities in the 20 biggest cities in Britain to promote “new jobs, new income, new homes and commercial space” according to its website. Their flagship projects are in Cardiff, Leeds, London, Manchester and Nottingham. The projects are assessed continuously for their social impact, including acquisition, construction and post-occupancy. There is a Sustainable Investment Committee, chaired by Jonathon Porritt, to enforce the SI goals of the company.

Its history

The Igloo Regeneration Partnership was set up by the asset managers Morley (now Aviva Investors) in 2002. It has been described by the UN as the first socially responsible property fund. Indirect investments are held in Blueprint and Isis Waterside Regeneration Partnership.

Fellowtravellers

Fellowtravellers is an innovative concept which aims to increase uptake in public transport by eliminating many of the perceived negatives of existing services. The basic premise is that, by use of data-sorting technology, bus-type routes (i.e. routes which rely upon numerous, overlapping journeys) can be provided professionally by a range of small, medium or large businesses, from a sole trader with a saloon car taxi to a large operator with a fleet of vehicles.
