Green Thing is a public service that inspires people to lead a greener life. Green Thing’s mantra is "Creativity Vs. Climate Change - using world-class creativity to reframe sustainable living as smart, sexy, fashionable and fun and something worthwhile on its own terms and inspire people to behave differently."How is it social?
Green Thing's core aim is to combat global warming by encouraging everyone to reduce carbon emissions and raising awareness of social and environmental problems.
What is its business model?
Green Thing is independent and not-for-profit; it is supported by grants from foundations and individual donations. Grants so far have come from the likes of the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, The Ashden Trust, and UnLtd. Green Thing has also received donations from commercial brands like Kingfisher and sponsorship from the likes of BT and The Climate Group. Any profits beyond administration costs will go to Green Thing's own environmental charity, Green Thing Trust (Charity Registration No 1125013) as soon as funds permit. On a larger scale, Green Thing's mission is to get as many people in as many countries as possible to do the Green Thing to prevent climate change and then use that people power to persuade government and business to do the Green Thing too.
Its history
Green Thing was started by Naresh Ramchandani and Andy Hobsbawm, both of whom wanted to use their experience and expertise in the traditional and online communications industries to help make an environmental difference. The company was launched in August 2007.
